On 29 April 2011, the DAAD-AAvHF (Australian Association of von Humboldt Fellows) Research Ambassadors and Mentoring Network was kickstarted at its formation meeting at the Goethe-Institut in Sydney. About 25 interested mentors and mentees were in attendance and discussed the best way to set up the scheme.

In an excellent introductory talk, mentor Ruth Rentschler discussed a wide range of aspects of mentoring. Mentor and AvH-Ambassador Scientist Kay Double added her valuable experience from the mentoring taking place in her research institute. A group discussion resulted in even more ideas about how to shape the mentoring programme.
